Well, if you are willing to "layer up", the Mardis Gras parade in downtown Utica is this weekend. There will be beads and trinkets of all sorts thrown at you from every direction. The people that go always have a good time and Hey! It's something to do, right? The only reason we've never gone is because we have an Inn to run, and weekends are our busiest times, so, sadly we miss many of the weekend activities. So we like to live vicariously through our Inn guests. Please, come back from your journeys and tell us a tale.
If one parade isn't enough for you, or maybe you just can't make it this weekend, on the 15th of March is the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Utica. This is the original, they've been doing this one far longer than the Mardis Gras parade. St. Patrick's Day in Utica has been a tradition for the area a long time. It's the only place in the area that closes down it's main street so people can walk form bar to bar. Start off with a Pint of Smithwicks (real Irish beer) at Duffy's, go on to Skoogs and have a pint of Guiness and before you are done, head over to Canal Port, for the American Tradition of Green Beer on St. Paddy's Day! Of course they'll all be serving your Irish/American traditions. Corned Beef and Cabbage, Rubens, you name it. Heck, I think we may even be servin Corned Beef and Hash for breakfast on Sunday Morning.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
