We took a little hike at Matthiessen Park yesterday. The colors were just starting to come on, but it was still beautiful with the sun out and the grass so green. The picture of the Maple is a close up of one that we can see from the back of the Inn. The weather looks absolutely GORGEOUS next week. I highly suggest you get out there and take it all in. I also highly suggest you stay at the Brightwood Inn when you do so. 😊😊The owl is a Barred Owl that for some reason, found it's way into our garage yesterday. We had to leave the garage door open all night (thank God we live in the country) so that it could get out. This morning, he was gone.🦉

So this year, we were able to find a lot of Monarch caterpillars! We have 8 in total and we're kinda running out of room..... and time. But today when we came in, two of them were hanging upside down from the screen. I was like, Oh my god! They're forming their chrysalis! They were there for quite some time so I got busy and did some things, come back and BOOM, it was done. Now we were waiting for the second one. We were at our desk working and I said that I'll go make lunch, walk by and it had turned too! It was like magic! I had no idea it happened that fast. It really is fascinating to see Mother natures work up close and personal. Can't wait to set them free as full Monarch Butterflies!!🦋🐛🦋🐛😀😁😊

An update on our raised garden! As you can see, it's a Jungle in there!! The tomatoes are starting to produce a lot of tomatoes, so far we've only picked a couple, but in a few weeks we're gonna have bushel baskets full!🍅🍅 The eggplant are producing pretty good, as a matter of fact we had Eggplant Parmesan the other night and it was delicious!🍆🍆 A lot of peppers too, bell peppers poblano, serrano and aniheims.🌶️🌶️ Right now we have cucumbers coming out of our ears!🥒🥒 We planted 6 plants to begin with, then when we thought we planted 4 zucchini, it turned out 3 were cucumbers as well!! So, stay at the Brightwood and get a free cucumber!! 🤣 The last two pictures are of a ground squirrel I caught getting into our bird feeders, the cheeky little devil! 😆

I want to know if those are blueberry bushes growing in the field in front and next to you. I’ve watched them grow for a couple of years, and often thought about just stopping and asking out of curiosity. I assume they are for August Hill, and either blueberry or blackberry? Three immature Kestrel's (AKA Sparrow Hawk) have been hanging around our herb garden all week. Kestrel's are actually a Falcon, despite it's common name. You can often see them hovering over a field looking for mice and other small prey. 🐦😁
