Conveniently located 4 minutes directly South of Starved Rock State Park on Route 178, the Brightwood Inn is nestled on 14 acres within the confines of Matthiessen State Park. Our Starved Rock bed and breakfast will provide you with a romantic, peaceful and luxurious stay amid the beauty of nature.

Area Activities

There are many outside activities in the area such as hiking the state park trails, canoeing on the Fox river, horseback riding, sky diving, bicycling the I&M Canal towpath, white water rafting on the Vermillion river, shopping in the nearby towns and golfing. Winter activities include cross country skiing, Bald Eagle watching, viewing the beautiful frozen waterfalls of the state parks or just snuggling.

All rooms feature beautiful accommodations plus satellite flat screen TV, DVD player with a full DVD library, seasonal fireplace and private bath. Six rooms have large, two-person hot tub jacuzzis and three have private balconies.

Things to do THIS WEEKEND!!

January 11th is the Winter Wilderness Hike at Starved Rock. Discover the winter beauty at Starved Rock State Park on a guided hike. There's a chance of spotting bald eagles soaring high in the sky or experiencing majestic, frozen waterfalls. Hike is approximately 3 miles round trip.

Then January 12th is the Sled Dog Demo! Free Spirit Siberian Rescue will return for two sled dog demos on January 12, 2020. Seminars take place in the LaSalle Room at 10:30am and 1:30pm. Outdoor sled dog demos will take place in the northwest corner of the Visitor Center Parking Lot at 9:30am, 12pm and 3pm.

Awesome Ottawa Tours, will be doing his Wine Through Time tours. "Wine Through Time" is a prohibition era tour that visits 4 restaurants and discusses gambling, booze and brothels during the 1920's in Starved Rock Country. "Indian Burial Mounds & Forgotten Graveyards" is a self explanatory year round tour.

And there is always wine tastings, beer tastings, great dining and shopping throughout the area!! 😁😊

No Reason to just curl up and hibernate this winter when there is so much to do in the Starved Rock Area!! Stay at the BRIGHTWOOD INN and enjoy all of the activities here.

For starters, now is the perfect time to go hiking in the parks. The parks aren't nearly as congested as the summer and fall. The leaves are off the trees so you can see the beautiful canyons and rock formations with no obstructions. Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear!!

January 25th and 26th is the Eagle Watch Weekend at Starved Rock. Bald Eagle Watch Weekend celebrates the American bald eagle in Illinois. The two-day event offers many programs, activities and exhibits occurring simultaneously at three locations, the Starved Rock Lodge, Illinois Waterway Visitor and the Starved Rock Visitor Center.

February 7th and 8th is the Winter Wine Walk in Utica!! On Friday the 7th, August Hill kicks it off with live music from 4:30 to 7:30. Then Saturday is the actual Wine Walk, with Wine, Food, Shopping and Fun, at 17 locations throughout Utica!! This event is highly attended and the Brightwood Inn and Wine walk WILL both sellout!!
